Blue Heaven, Key West, FL

Blue Heaven is not a vegan or vegetarian restaurant. It only has a couple vegan options, and only one I would recommend, but as far as I could see, there really weren't many vegan options in Key West at all. It's a fun place with most seating outdoors. I had the Vegetarian Black Bean Soup (but ordered it without the sour cream and cheese to have it vegan) and the Tofu Stir-Fry, served over rice. The stir-fry was good, but the soup was not. It was basically like they heated up a can of black beans, and I think it was quite expensive. The restaurant is a bit more expensive and I believe the entree was at least $15. blueheavenkw.homestead.com/menus.html 729 Thomas St. Key West, FL 33040. Vertical Diner, Salt Lake City, UT

The Vertical Diner is a very affordable all vegan restaurant in SLC. They offer a wide variety of sandwiches and veggie burgers, salads, and a great breakfast menu. My favorite breakfast items are the pancakes, tofu scramble, and hashbrowns. The sunshine burger with vertical sauce (their vegan version of fry sauce) and fries is awesome for dinner. My husband Filip also loves the Chef Grille Salad. The cost is about $8-$10 per meal. Open 7 days a week 10am-9pm, 2280 South West Temple, Salt Lake City UT 84115; 801/484-8378. They are located on the West side of the street, look for the sign with a large orange V. Parking is located behind the restaurant, where they also have a small patio for dining outside in the summer. http://www.verticaldiner.com/

Mint Indian Bistro, Las Vegas, NV

The Mint Indian Bistro is not a vegetarian or vegan restaurant, but has many vegan options clearly marked on the menu. The only thing mismarked on the menu that I am aware of is the Naan. It is not vegan. I have only been there once, and my experience was great. Their menu has Indian, Tibetan, and Nepalese dishes. I ordered the Vegan Sampler $26.99 to split with some friends. This is enough food for 2 people. It comes with whole-wheat roti, kwati soup, kakro salad, alu kaoli masala, the mixed vegetable curry of the day, chana saag, basmati rice, and a dessert (it says coconut sorbet on the menu, but what I got was more of a carrot and coconut dessert, but not sorbet). I enjoyed most of the food. The only things I didn't particularly like were the soup and the salad. The soup was a little salty for my taste, and the salad was more just vegetables, and it was mostly cucumbers, and unfortunately, I don't really like cucumbers. Everything else was amazing. I don't remember the dishes my friends ordered, but I do remember they got half orders since I was getting the sampler, and their portions were still quite large. I can't imagine how much food is in the full order. It was a lovely place, and I will definitely go back the next time I am in Vegas. 730 E Flamingo Rd #9 & 10, Las Vegas NV 89119; 702/894-9334. Open 7 days a week 11:30am-2:30pm (lunch buffet, not sure what is offered at this) and 2:30pm - 10:30pm for dinner. http://www.mintbistro.com/ There is a small parking lot area in front of the restaurant.

Mazza, Salt Lake City, UT

Mazza is not a vegan or vegetarian restaurant. It is a Middle Eastern Cuisine restaurant with many vegan options clearly labeled on the menu. The appetizers are great, my favorites being Muhamara, Hummus, and Ful Mudammas. Sometimes the pita is good, sometimes it isn't, you just have to ask for some new pita if what you get isn't great. The appetizers range from $5-7, but you can get a sampler of 3 for $10 or a sampler of 4 for $13. For sandwiches they offer the standard Falafel $6.50, and they also have some vegan kababs $5 each, or a platter for $15. My other favorite to get here is the lentil soup, $6. The menus online do not mark the vegan options, but the menus in the restaurant clearly mark the options that are vegan. There are 2 locations, the original is 1515 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City UT 84105 801/484-9259 Mon-Sat 11am-10pm, and the newer location 912 East 900 South, Salt Lake City UT 84105 801/521-4572 Mon-Sat 11am-3pm and 5pm-10pm. http://www.mazzacafe.com/ There is only street parking available for both locations.

Sage's Cafe, Salt Lake City, UT

Sage's is owned by the same people as Vertical Diner and is another wonderful all vegan restaurant in SLC. It is a little bit more expensive with meals ranging from $10-$15, but they also have some sandwiches in the $8-$10 range. My favorite items here are the Fresh Basil Pesto Pasta $15.50, the Tacos Vegetarianos $13.50, soup of the day (always changing and always unique), and the Brownie Sundae with Rasberrry Sauce $7 for dessert. Filip also loves the Sauteed Spinach Salad $12 and says it is the best salad he has had anywhere. It is a unique little place with a great atmosphere. Open Monday - Friday 11:30am-2:30pm and 5-10pm, and Saturday - Sunday 10am-10pm. They also offer a brunch menu, but I have never eaten here for breakfast. 473 East 300 South, Salt Lake City UT 84111; 801/322-3790. http://www.sagescafe.com/ There is only street parking available.
