Lehka Hlava (Clear Head), Prague, Czech Republic

This is another all vegetarian restaurant located in Prague, and it is amazing. It seems that you almost need to have a reservation for dinner, especially if you are going in the evening on a weekend. The even better part about this restaurant is that it is smoke free, a rare thing in Prague. All vegan items, and items that can be prepared vegan are clearly marked on the menu.

We had the dried tomato pesto and peanut spread with bread, which was amazing. The spread was so good and it was served with a few different types of breads. I also had the vegetable soup with red lentils and coconut milk which is also served with some bread. The soup was okay, but I would not order it again. It just didn't have enough flavor for me, but it wasn't bad. I just enjoy to use a lot more spices when I cook to add flavor and don't enjoy dishes that are so bland. For an entree I had the bulgur risotto with grilled tempeh, spring vegetables, and with the pesto dried tomato and peanut spread on top. This dish was good and did have plenty of flavor, the only thing I wasn't excited about was the tempeh. I usually prefer tempeh to tofu, which is why I ordered this dish. However, this tempeh was somehow flavored to taste like a fake meat, and I do not like any of the fake meat flavored proteins. If you don't mind this though, you will love this dish. My only recommendation is getting the half order as the portions are quite large. I will definitely be back here to try more items from their menu. http://www.lehkahlava.cz/

Radost FX, Prague, Czech Republic

Radost is an all vegetarian place. It also has a lounge and nightclub attached. The food here is good and vegan items, or items that can be made vegan are clearly marked on the menu. The one downside is that smoking is allowed, and it just depends when you go if there are a lot of people there smoking or not. I have been 3 times, and only once was it bad. The hummus platter is great for a meal or for an appetizer for a few people. It has hummus, pita, and some fresh cut veggies. Recently I had the Penne Marinara, which comes with cheese on it, but is one of the items you can order to be made vegan. I advise that you be very sure the waitstaff understands you are requesting it be vegan. I said many times "no cheese" and "I would like it made vegan" and the waitress responded that there "was no cheese" so I thought I was all set. When my food came however, there was cheese on it. Because my husband is Czech, he was more easily able to speak with her and said I had requested it without cheese, and she said she thought I had meant I didn't want cheese in the pasta. Just make sure they know what you want or don't want, or to make it even easier, you could just order items that are already prepared vegan. http://www.radostfx.cz/

Jerry's, Prague, Czech Republic

Jerry's is not a vegan or vegetarian restaurant, but had 2 things which I could get. French fries, which are fried in oil that nothing else is fried in, and a salad. The salad I had was not on the menu, but something they did for me since I didn't want any cheese on my salad. It was tomatoes, cucumber, and yellow peppers with an oil and seasoning dressing. This is located in a more local residential area not close to downtown, so unless you are out this way and need something, I wouldn't recommend going out there just for this. There are many much better options closer to downtown Prague. http://www.jerrys.cz/

Marie Catrib's, Grand Rapids, MI

This restaurant/cafe is not just vegan/vegetarian, but they have many options and the vegan and gluten free options are clearly marked. Also, you can talk to someone there and they will work with you to let you know what options are available. Many times at least one of their soups of the day ($3.89/$5.39) is a vegan option, and they also have cakes and cookies and other sweets that are vegan each day as well. My favorite sandwich to get is the falafel ($7.39). It is very tasty, but be warned, there is a lot of garlic, which I love, but I realize not all people do.
It is often quite busy, especially around lunch time in the restaurant area, but they also have a deli area next door where you can place orders for takeout. It is a very nice, family run business, and many times you can see Marie walking around with some sort of sweet to pass out to the people waiting for a table. http://www.mariecatribs.com/ 1001-1003 Lake Dr. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. City Cakes & Cafe, Salt Lake City, UT

City Cakes & Cafe offers traditional and vegan baked goods. There were so many vegan sweets to choose from it was hard to pick just one. I had the cheesecake with a lemon topping, while Filip had the raspberry lemon bar. Both were divine. They also had a bit of a lunch menu, that looked like it changes depending on what they have. There was hummus with pita, soup, and veggie sandwiches when we were there. It's a very cute cafe, and they also have free wi-fi. You can buy a slice of cafe while dining there, or you can order cakes to take home. I will definitely be back there soon to try something else. 282 East 900 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. 801/359-2239, http://www.citycakescafe.com/
